Excellent results for the Starboard team with Giulio and Raimondo Gasperini taking top podium positions at the first stop of the Italian Wing Championships.
Epic conditions: Over 25 knots and more than two meters of wave guaranteed a great show, for the first Italian National stop of the 2021 Wing Foil Tour in Sicily at the fantastic wing spot of Puzziteddu.
Above all, Giulio Gasperini (14 years old) was the surprise of the event, winning first place in Juniors and second place in the Open division in the Wave/ Freestyle discipline. Giulio also surprised everyone with his surfing, jumps and breathtaking rotations.
In the slalom, Giulio proved his worth and placed second in the Junior category and fourth overall.

Windsurf legend Raimondo Gasperini also put in a stellar performance in the Wave Freestyle where he finished first in the Masters rankings and a good 4th in the overall results.
Good performance for Ray also in Slalom with a good 2nd place in the category.

Congratulations to Francesco Cappuzzo who has won both Slalom and Wave.
There was a lot of interest and many entrants to the first wing competition in this new sport: “Puzziteddu” who had to deal with really tough conditions.
Great deployment of vehicles and people made the organizational part flawless. During the two days of racing, eight slalom races were held and the Freestyle scoreboard was concluded. The protagonists are especially the very young with a performance of true champions. This is a great signal for what is to come in this young sport.
Slalom:
A stick course was chosen for the slalom trials, the only possible solution given the intensity of the wind and the strength of the waves.
The top contenders were evenly matched making them fight until the last round for third place between Riccardo Zorzi and Giulio Gasperini, the latter on his debut in the WFT.

Wave/ Freestyle:
In freestyle, the two best manoeuvres and the best surfing were considered.
The heats of the final part of the scoreboard are: Vivian – Zorzi, Gasperini R. – Capparella, Migliorini – Gasperini G., Pugliese – Cappuzzo.
Gasperini R. goes to the semifinals and meets his son Giulio who has just returned from a great victory over Migliorini. Apulian falls into the clutches of Cappuzzo, who collides with Zorzi.
Among the Gasperini’s it is Giulio who has the upper hand, accessing the final.
Giulio Gasperini in the final fight, like a lion, the Heat was close but must give way to an extraordinary local Cappuzzo from Puzziteddu.
