FreeWing team rider Orane Ceris is making her name known amongst the top wingfoilers. The New Caledonian rider claimed 3rd position in the race discipline at the last event of the 2021 GWA Wing Foil World Tour, which took place in Tarifa, Spain. The rising star battled it out against the top professional wing foil athletes from around the globe.

Orane has set high expectations for herself, looking to improve from her results at the Brazilian leg a few weeks before;

“At this event, I really wanted to catch up on my performance in the Brazil race where I was not at my best. I knew I could do better!”

A light wind condition is never anyone’s favorite when it comes to competing, but she loves it! And it was less than 1 point to win a podium in this Surf-FreeStyle competition.

“We started the competition with the freestyle event in very light wind. I felt rather good I had equipment adapted for these conditions. It’s an advantage because it is always more pleasant to have a small wing light and maneuverable especially for the freestyle.

I’m proud of my improvements in freestyle and this time I was really close from 2nd and 3rd place as it was less than 1 point in my semi final and also in my final round.”

The light wind conditions had her swimming cross the finish line! Despite low wind conditions, Orange fought hard to clinch 3rd place in the Race Discipline.

“We were only able to do three races because the wind was really weak as the first one was unfortunately cancelled. A small anecdote about this race, the wind has completely fallen and I finished 2nd crossing the finish line by swimming. And I finished 2nd overall results which I am super happy with.

This second place in Tarifa allowed me to reach the 3rd place of the general podium of the GWA tour, it was really unexpected and I’m super satisfied.”

Talent wins games, but teamwork and innovation win championships. Orane also revealed how happy she was to be a part of FreeWing team;

“I really enjoyed this last step because I was able to meet the FreeWing team that was present, they were taking care of me and I thank them – it was a really cool experience. There were also Xavi Corr and Sam Carentz, other riders of the team, and we would help each other, exchange equipment, and discuss the adjustments.

We were like a family all together and it was really great.”

Said she cannot wait to get back to the ocean in the next season to improve her jumps and speed!

“Now I’ve just returned to my home in New Caledonia to rest a little and especially train for the next season in a warm and chill place.

I can’t wait to go back to competition and be able to surpass myself again”
