FreeWing is excited to announce Bruno Kancel as our new Team Manager. Bruno has been a part of the Tiki family for many years and winging with FreeWing from the very beginning since we introduced the brand back in 2020.
Bruno has been in the filming industry since 2013, flying drones for documentaries, TV shows and of course for watersports. You’ve probably seen one of these videos, really close flying with Tristan Algret on slalom gear. He is well-rooted within sailing in his home of Guadeloupe, a beautiful French Caribbean Island, and is also the president of their sailing league since 2021.
He started winging in 2020, when FreeWing introduced the AIR. From the beginning, he felt this new toy was a game changer for wave riding — especially for a 90kg guy with the Caribbean winds. He’s got a solid background in windsurfing, particularly wind foiling — but he is still a true waterman and enjoys surfing, kiting and sailing. Everything the island can deliver!
Why FreeWing?
“We are at the beginning of a new era in watersports with the emergence of foiling, with rapid development in product design and technological innovation, which FreeWing is well positioned to be an industry leader. FreeWing gets advantages from every other brand in the SESTAR Group and makes it really attractive for the future. A unique and exciting fusion of two leading innovation brands, Starboard and Airush, blending the ideology of the different sports into groundbreaking designs.
My vision in watersports is a mix of how to get more people riding and on the other side how to be on top of the podium. Applied to team management at FreeWing; it’s a really talented & driven team that I am excited to be working with. Beyond high-performance results, we will explore opportunities to develop kids wingfoiling, and also help sports clubs and local federations develop the sport at a grassroots level. The future is now!”
Bruno brings with him a wealth of team experience, first as a team rider for the Caribbean distributor, and was also part of the 2019 IQFoiL Olympic trial in Torbole, Lake Garda. Bruno also works closely with, Remi Vila, giving constant feedback for the development of the Slalom and Foil gear, and is fully emersed in the Sestar philosophy.
We’re excited about what the next chapter holds for Bruno with FreeWing and the Sestar Group.
