Racing

This was my first time competing on the IWSA World Cup Series and my first time competing since my shoulder surgery over a year ago! I didn’t not have any expectations, my goal was to to have fun!

I had a great first day of competition where I finished the day sitting in 3rd position overall. On the second day of competition, I had an even more incredible day! Something clicked and I felt extremely comfortable on my race equipment, felt comfortable at speed and felt strong to be able to pump around the course. On day 2 my score card was 2,4,1,1,2,2,2,1. This was a super consistent score sheet and with this consistency I jumped up into the lead. I was honestly quite shocked, but extremely happy because I sailed well. Even if I hadn’t moved into the first place position, I still would have been happy with the way I sailed on that day.

The competition was 5 days long, but we only had Wind on the first two days. That meant the athletes were left to sit around and wait and hope for more wind. Unfortunately the wind didn’t arrive within the racing window, so we did not race beyond the first two days. However, we did manage 10 races during the regatta and that allowed three races dropped from the score sheet. This means that my results only carried 1st and 2nd place results… pretty darn good for my first time racing on a World Cup!

Im not exactly sure how I did this, but I think this result is attributed to all of the other water sports I have competed in over the years and for taking a very calm and fun approach to the regatta.

I’d like to say a huge congrats to my teammate Orane Ceris, who placed 3rd. It’s fantastic to have FreeWing and Starboard #1 & #3 on the women’s podium!

Thank you for all the support!
