Pattaya International Windsurfing Championships 2025
Pattaya, Thailand – December 2024

The X-15 Class Wingfoil One Design race at the Pattaya International Windsurfing Championships was a thrilling conclusion to the 2024 year, showcasing the best of international wingfoiling talent. With 25 competitors from Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea, Italy and Hong Kong, this event was widely regarded as the most exciting of the season, with a perfect combination of wind conditions and competitive spirit.

The event kicked off with two days of training, featuring practice races and coaching led by professional waterwoman and X-15 Class Manager, Fiona Wylde. Her expert guidance helped all participants sharpen their skills ahead of the main event. The first two days were all about preparing for the racing, and the excitement among the sailors was palpable.

As the competition began, the fleet was split into two groups due to limited equipment, with a total of only 15 sets of X-15 gear available. The equipment was provided for free for all sailors, so racers had to share, creating an interesting dynamic as competitors adjusted to different boards and wings. After Day 1, the results were used to re-seed the fleets, ensuring that the competition remained as fair and challenging as possible.

On the final day, the top half of each fleet advanced to the Final, where they competed for positions 1 through 12. The second heat saw the remaining racers battling for positions 13 through 25. Each day, both fleets raced in 3 races total, so the regatta total was 9 racers per sailors, but a total of 18 X-15 Class starts were run. In addition to the overall standings, U19, Masters, and Women’s categories were separated out and scored individually, adding further excitement to the event’s conclusion.

One of the major standouts of the event was nine-year old Shane from Thailand. Shane is not only a strong racer, but he is also a very smart racer. Shane made tactical decisions and approached the start line with the ease and grace of someone double his age and size. He is a force to be reckoned with and definitely one to watch!
