Local waterwomen and Starboard Ream Team rider Fiona Wylde wins the Women’s title and takes 3rd overall in the Wingfoiling race. This was the first-ever wingfoil course race at Gorge Paddle Challenge which took place at Hood River, Oregon.
Men and women raced together in the exciting 5 lap course format racing – here’s what Fiona had to say about this event:
“In the fashion of this weekend, the Gorge Paddle Challenge hosted the first-ever Wing Course Race in the Gorge. I wanted to jump in and try something new. I had zero expectations and just had fun! To my complete surprise, I had an epic start and lead the race around the first two marks of the course. Men and women raced together so that was fun because so many people were on the course! After five laps I finished 3rd overall and won the women’s race! It was so fun to be on the course with so many other wingfoilers and to try something completely new! I must say, I loved it and I am very much looking forward to more opportunities to wing foil race!”
Fiona had a superb weekend of competition, also taking the win in the Open Women’s SUP overall classification, making it a trifecta win for the Starboard team rider. Read more about the SUP races at Fiona Wylde Wins 6th Overall Gorge Paddle Challenge.
“Winning the wing foil course race made this weekend a trifecta for me – first a win in the SUP ‘Double Downwinders’, a win in the SUP course race, and then a win in the wing foil course race!
There is so much more I could say, but all in all, a special weekend thanks to the Gates Family. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
