FreeWingPhoto AlbumWingfoiling West Maui with Zane SchweitzerAC6I2282

On a flat summer day on Maui, Zane Schweitzer and Adam Klevin were hungry for action and decided to get creative in the trade winds on the west side of Maui. Adam had a new camera and warehousing to go with it that he was excited to test and Zane was stoked as always to get in the water with his Starboard FreeWing Air and wingfoiling setup.

They decided to stay local and fluidly adapted with conditions at hand shooting it straight to Oneloa Bay, AKA Ironwoods. Ironwoods is a typical local surf spot for a West Maui kid like Zane, but often is hit by the trade winds which makes it a favorite place for him to train on various different crafts close to home. After they checked the conditions- high tide with strong wind-, Zane didn’t wast time to get excited about Windwing Foiling on the Starboard x AK Freewing. He rigged a 4m Freewing and set up his 1300 AK Surf Foil on a Starboard Foil Surf 4’8″ and was off to to the water with all smiles. Adam was about as excited he could be on a 1ft and blown out day as a surf photographer shooting Windwing foiling for the first time.

Off they went for what was most likely the first ever Windwing session out at this West Maui gem of a location! For how shallow the inside was most would probably stay away from places like this for foiling but Zane seemed to have the reef pretty wired as he jumped straight into the water and navigated precisely through the fingers of shallow reef on the inside. Once Zane was up and foiling Adam was trippin’ with the speed and ground that could be covered! He right away started to enjoy shooting this different sport and Zane kept him busy throwing jumps and running laps around him! About an hour into the session Zane’s footstrap came loose but he stayed out and decided to play around with some one-footed jumps cowboy style!

Most people weren’t too excited on this average day on West Maui, but, as Zane would say, “There’s always something fun to do on the water!”
